A Single Snowflake by ~iforgot120:iconiforgot120:

A Single Snowflake

The come of cold in the still air
A chill, it’s awful in your hair.
The snow is falling through the sky
Upon the kids, all passing by.

To school! To school! Off now we go!
The joys of learning, ho de ho.
To be prepared for a great year,
Come on, let’s go! Have no fear!

A child dawdles, slowly still
Standing upon a lonely hill.
Catching upon his tongue, the snowflakes
Leaving snow drifts in his wakes.

Hands outstretched, palm to sky.
Staring up, oh so high.
The wonders of the world, you see
Is filled with everything that can be.

A single snowflake, drifting low
Catches on some mistletoe.
The child, seeing, takes by hand
The wonders of this mysterious land.

To take to school to show his friends
Receive praise from teachers, make amends.
But, as the boy shall see,
A single snowflake cannot be.

When brought into the school at last
Becomes just like the rest-

An ordinary drop of water.

Author's Comments

I actually wrote this for Lit class a few weeks ago, and I like it. Hidden in this poem is a conceit, or a comparison between two dissimiliar objects. See if you can find it!

Kit Garchow swaying in the wind
His short brown hair fluttering every so slightly
His khaki pants and indescript white shirt
Flow gently with the breeze

Kit Garchow swaying in the wind
A golden butterfly lands softly on his shoulder
A gentle Kit Garchow smile spreads across
the face of the supple young boy

Kit Garchow swaying in the wind...
